2025 Independent Commissioner Nomination Form

Nominations will only be accepted on receipt of this signed Nomination Form.
Nominations will not be accepted after 5 pm on Monday, 14 April 2025.
Commissioners will be appointed at the 2025 AGM, Sunday, 25 May 2025.
All nominees shall be notified of the outcome following the AGM.

Independent Commissioner Criteria

An Independent Commissioner:

May have specific skills in commerce, finance, marketing, law or business generally or such other skills which complement the Commission composition, but need not have experience in or exposure to basketball;
Must not be on the management committee (or similar body) of or employed by Basketball SA, Basketball Adelaide, SA Church, or SA Country;
Must not be on the management committee (or similar body) of or employed by any affiliate of Basketball Adelaide, SA Church or SA Country, specifically including any District Club, Church Club, Country Club and/or Association, or the Adelaide Lightning Basketball Club or the Adelaide 36ers Basketball Club;
Must not receive an honorarium payment exceeding $500 from any affiliate of Basketball Adelaide, SA Church, or SA Country;
Must not have a commercial, financial or legal prejudicial interest in the operations of Basketball SA, declared or perceived; and
Must not have held a position detailed in 2, 3, or 4 above anytime within the last three (3) years, nor have held a position for such a period that their independence has been compromised.

Executive Leadership

Director/CEO/Head of Department in an executive leadership or management role of a company or NFP. *

Financial Acumen

Recognised degree in Accounting or Finance or full membership of CPA or CA with at least 2-3 years' experience working in roles where the qualifications were actively used, i.e. CFO, Accountant, Commercial Manager, GM Finance. *

Government or Business

Experience in a relevant mid-level to senior government or business role with an understanding of local, state, and government operations, systems and culture. *

Industry / Sport

Knowledge of basketball, either as a player, coach, official or administrator. *

Contemporary Governance

Director of an incorporated body or registered as a Director of a company for at least 2-3 years or governance qualifications (GAICD) or demonstrated governance experience. *

Legal

Qualifications in the field of law; with at least 5 years relevant legal experience. *

Infrastructure and Project Management

Experience in infrastructure planning, development and/or project management. *

Risk Management

Experience in managing areas of major risk within an organisation of risk factors to business organisations or NFP. *

Sponsorship

Success working in a sponsorship capacity responsible for accounts exceeding $250,000. *

Media, Digital, Marketing and Communication

Experience in the last 5-10 years in a role with a media, communications, marketing, advertising or PR organisation. *
